I bake naturally gluten-free and dairy-free foods for our family--I am gluten-intolerant, so it seemed silly to cook and bake foods that I cannot consume! In addition, I really love incorporating plants that we grow into the foods that we eat.
All of my family loves to eat a good bread, don't you? I like to make and eat a gluten -free sourdough with a bit of a snap to it, but not a sourdough with a very sharp taste. We just happen to use ingredients that mimic the effect of gluten while also tasting amazing.
What is sourdough?
Sourdough bread is the most ancient of leavened bread techniques. It utilizes wild air-borne yeasts to provide lift to the loaf and wild bacteria to provide the unique flavor. There are many claims of the health-giving effects of sourdough that you may care to pursue online.
Why do we do this?
We operate an in-town Olathe u-pick and we-pick flower farm. However, not all of the plants that we grow are suitable for inclusion in our bouquets. But a lot of our herbs ARE useful in the kitchen! Our gluten-free baked goods offerings came out of a desire to use more of the garden in the business. (Okay, and I did finally decide that we might have something to offer here when a party guest mentioned to me, "I am lusting after your bread." And he was not even celiac!)
How do we bake?
In small batches. Our breads are treated the same as our garden, no chemicals/no preservatives. As high-quality ingredients as possible, organic ones when we can. You get the same ingredients I feed my family.
What do you bake?
At this time we bake one kind of bread a week (although we may add a weekly sweet bread if enough ask). Currently we have a few darker breads interspersed with my white sandwich-type bread and a sweet bread to round out the month. Find this week's bread here.
There is a monthly schedule available. Contact us to be put on the bakery notification list!
I bake on Fridays for Saturday morning pickup.
How do I order?
You may pre-order on our website. Preorders close at 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. It takes two days to make a sourdough recipe, so we need a fair amount of advance notice.
Where do I pick up my order?
Unless otherwise notified, most of this summer you may pick it up at the Olathe Black Bob Farmer's Market at the face painting booth on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The remainder of the Saturdays you may pick up your order at our Olathe suburban farm...the address is on this website and will also be included in your reminder notifications.
Any other questions that I can help out with, please contact me!
Thanks for checking us out!
Eat good bread!
